too far can possibly find out how far one can go

How to Live Your Dream Life

If you are like me, you had dreams as a kid. I was going to grow up and take over the world. Ok, not take over the world, but people would know my name, so I thought. I grew up wanting more out of life. I enjoyed dreaming about money, fame, and the ability to do my own thing whenever I wanted. I knew there was more to life than the class I was born into. I wanted more money than my parents currently had. They didn’t have much. I had food in my belly and shoes on my feet. But I wanted the not-Walmart shoes and the not-Walmart bike. I wanted name-brand clothes, a nicer home, newer cars, etc. I saw my friends and their parents’ stuff and wanted more.

As I grew older and more curious, I realized that I could earn these things myself. I could take my destiny into my own hands, and that’s exactly what I did. I knew early that my parents couldn’t afford college for me. I quickly learned at a young age that we have over 4000 years of recorded history. All that recorded history was right there in the library. Did I need a higher education to learn this stuff? Nope. I just needed to know how to read and process information.

How did Henry Ford get where he was? I read that he only had a 6th-grade education. I didn’t need fancy schools. I needed books and a desire to put the books into action.

How did I start my first lawn business? I looked and asked, “What would Henry do?” I read how he started and applied that knowledge. I wanted to duplicate myself and expand. So, I found a book on this too. I read about how Charles Schwab treated his employees and I put that into practice. I needed money for lawnmowers and tools. I learned about recruiting others and giving them equity. This came from Napoleon Hill’s Think and Grow Rich. This book was invaluable to me. It taught me to hire my neighborhood friends to how expand my business, and much more. All in one place. Score! I got a childhood MBA with these valuable nuggets by reading and applying the knowledge. Now I need customers, how do I learn to get customers? Zig Ziglar had a book for that! See the pattern?

follow your dreams

Getting unlimited knowledge from unlimited books is easy and mostly free. And it’s from people who have already done it. It was a simplistic idea that changed the world for me. “There is nothing new under the sun” is what I read in Sunday school in Proverbs. I made this my MO: there isn’t a situation anywhere that I would ever encounter that a book could not help me resolve.

I am 50 years old. I have never held a W2 position, never went to college, and I have controlled my destiny since I was 13. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Live. Your. Dreams.

For the person reading this who says I could never do that, can you read? Can you understand? Can you do that? YES. YES. And Yes. Do you want to enjoy more of what life has to offer? Everyone wants more, but less than 10% of people ever take that leap. Don’t be the 90%. You can achieve anything you conceive and believe in.
